THOS Trend School Turned Mizner Park Into a Runway

This previous weekend, I was thrilled to be 1 of a few judges at a style competitors by Boca Raton-primarily based THOS Style University of Design and style (THOS). Picture “Project Runway” at Mizner Park! The competitors was fierce with gifted college students underneath the direction and mentorship of Letty Sanchez, founder of THOS.

The problem that these aspiring designers had been tasked with was to layout a garment inspired by the thought that, “If Cruella was attending the Met Gala, what would she dress in?” To get it a step even more, college students had to benefit from three unconventional material textures that have a yin and yang romantic relationship, still appear interesting alongside one another. No very simple undertaking to say the the very least.

Created and modeled by Eve DeLa Font

Really worth noting is that a significant variety of the students experienced hardly ever sewn before enrolling at THOS, but after just a several months of lessons below the tutelage of Sanchez, they showcased intricate clothes that would make Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum very pleased. These learners pushed themselves, developing garments with corsets, assertion epaulettes, voluminous tulles, tiered paper, garbage bags, and even fiber optic.

Intended by Tadaisha Lashay

For Sanchez, her greatest takeaway from the exhibit is, “proof that these new college students obtained to knowledge what it is like to have their vision turn into fruition by executing their initial style and design. It was a real looking option to find out that it is all doable.” And generating positive that her students are equipped with the tools required to thrive in the remarkably-competitive earth of vogue is the explanation why Sanchez began THOS in the initially place.

As a designer of her very own label, The Dwelling of Sanchez, Sanchez was applied to marketing to vendors like Nordstrom. But just after acquiring yet another youngster and seeking to be a continue to be-at-home mom, she recognized that her talent and practical awareness was desired to aid people learners who dream of studying style and design, but are not in a position to pay the common higher tuition charges, nor spend 4 decades in a system.

“I developed a program that would bridge the hole and supply pupils a stable basis in learning the core fundamentals, but extra importantly a style of mindset that builds character, resolve and a perception in their vogue foreseeable future,” suggests Sanchez. Nicely, mission completed! Immediately after each search went down the runway, the competing designers answered the judges’ concerns with confidence and conviction.

These budding designers’ commitment to mastering the art and company of manner design was infectious. Picking out a winner in a few categories was no straightforward feat, but Yvari Toussaint emerged victorious, successful awards for each “Best Design” and  “People’s Selection.” For Toussaint, “Winning these awards clearly show me that you need to consider in oneself to make things come about, and now I want to accomplish extra than I wanted to reach ahead of the competitors. With a new year all-around the corner, let us feed off the optimism and hope of Toussaint and his peers by toasting to significant dreams and likely right after them.
